Virginia Lewis

July 31, 1919 — March 4, 2016

Southwest Harbor - Virginia Maria (Soule) Lewis, 96, died March 4, 2016 at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 31, 1919, in Dorchester, MA, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Van Oosterwyck) Soule. Virginia graduated from Stetson High School in Randolph, MA. She met her husband while they were both working at the Milton Academy in Milton, Ma. They were married on September 1, 1940 and had a long and wonderful marriage of 42 years. A loving couple, Virginia and Al loved to travel and were always together. She loved dancing, gardening and being with family and friends. Virginia is a descendant of George Soule – A signer of the Mayflower Compact. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy; Three brothers, Frederick, Joseph and George. Virginia is survived by her sons, Rev. Alton (Julie) Lewis Jr., of LaSalle, IL and Wayne (Dorothy) Lewis, of Plymouth, MA; sister Louise Wiley, of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; A special niece Dorothy Burger, of Boynton Beach, FL and a special grandniece, Sandy Gould, of Brewer. Graveside services will be held later this year in Southwest Harbor. Memorial donations in Virginia’s memory may be made to the Raish Peavey Haskell Children’s Cancer Center C/O EMHS Foundation P.O.
