Rolf Robert Staples, Sr., 85, (Bangor) was called home to his Lord on Monday, June 10, 2024. Born on August 1, 1938, in Dover NH, the son of Robert Staples and Linnea (Stadig) Staples. Rolf graduated from Colebrook Academy, in Colebrook NH and studied electronics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Rolf enjoyed traveling with his family, often bringing his young children on mystery rides. He enjoyed camping, boating, and was avid gardener. Rolf was a mild-mannered family man, who enjoyed singing, whether it be at home, in the car, or in the church choir. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his warm hugs, and the love he had for his family and friends.
Rolf was a life-long member of The Grange since 1953, serving in various officer positions, including Deputy for Maine State Grange. He was a current member of the Bangor Grange and Old Town Grange and was active with up until his most recent illness.
Rolf received numerous awards for community service, including a nomination for the Governor’s Award on Volunteerism. He served as Volunteer Coordinator at the Eastern Area Agency on Aging. With a knack for identifying areas of need and acting on his ideas, Rolf started the “Fix It” program at EAAA, which helped older adults find assistance with home repairs. He also worked with various organizations to implement the first Farmer’s Market to accept food assistance vouchers so that low-income families could benefit from these markets.
Rolf is survived by his wife Anne; daughter, Dora and spouse, Sebrina Cote-Staples, of Sabattus; sons, Rolf II and spouse, Jennifer Staples, of Carmel, Christopher Staples of Presque Isle, and Keith and spouse, Dorothy Cote, of Barnadsville, NC; brothers, Nathan Silver of Island Falls, Calvin and his wife, Caryn Staples, of San Antonio, TX; sister, Marie and spouse, Neal Weber, of OH; his former mother-in-law, Ruth “Sweet” VanSickle; and stepchildren, Richard and spouse, Karel DePaola, of Milford, and Trish Knowles of Bucksport. He is also survived by his grandsons, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Rolf was predeceased by his parents, stepfather, Walt Silver, his wife Alice Rae (St. Laurent) Staples, brothers: Carl and John Staples.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1PM, Sunday June 23, 2024 at Essex St. Baptist Church, 82 Essex Street, Bangor, Maine.
