Richard Schrage

March 4, 1946 — April 8, 2016

Hampden, ME - Richard (Rick) J. Schrage, 70, passed away peacefully at home on APRIL 8, 2016 with family at his side. He was born March 4, 1946, in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Walter and Lillian (Bracken) Schrage. Rick left Taft High School early to join the U.S. Navy where he proudly served from 1963 to 1967. He then attended

Northeastern State Teachers College where he received his BA degree in December 1970. He began his career in banking in 1971 and stayed in banking until 1981 when he was hired by Webber Oil. In 1997 he left Webber Oil as Credit Manager and went into teaching at Reeds Brook Middle School and Hampden Academy and stayed there until he retired in 2011.
Although enjoying retirement, he continued working at JAC Enterprises. Throughout the years he was actively involved in several community programs, such as, the Big Brother/Sister program, CASA, and Literacy Volunteers of Bangor. He also took great pride in foster parenting where he had a positive impact on children's lives. He thoroughly enjoyed the Arts, traveling, singing in the Mainely Music Chorus and spending time with those he cared about. After three years of companionship, friendship, and love Rick and Ambie Hayes-Crosby were married in a private ceremony on March 11, 2016. Rick leaves this world a better place because he was here.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his stepmother Adele (Suerth - Stringfellow) Schrage; his sister, Judith Schubert; and stepbrother, William Stringfellow. Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Ambie ( Hayes-Crosby) Schrage of Hampden, ME; loving daughter, Gabrielle M. Schrage of Milford, ME; foster daughter, Andria Cunningham and granddaughter, Haley of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Ambie's two children, Jesse Crosby and wife, Catina and Daniel Crosby and wife, Denise; Sister, Patricia and husband, Joseph Panarale of Chicago, IL; brother, Walter and wife, Nadine of Pittsburgh, PA.as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Immense gratitude is expressed for the consistent support, love, and caring provided by all of his friends but in particular; Karen, Hunter, Aaron and Issac Pelletier, Nicole Clewely and Henry and Ann Lanford. The family would also like to extend its appreciation to Beacon Hospice and their providers for the loving care in his transition, members of Capital Ambulance, EMMC Grant 6 nursing staff, as well as the caring staff at Lafayette Family Cancer Center. All who knew him, will miss his humor, his love and his continued interest in their lives.

Based on Rick's wishes there will be no visitation and interment will be private. Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Rick's life at 3 p.m. Saturday April 16, 2016 at the Hilton'Garden Inn, 250
