Bangor – Peter Earl Hughes, Jr., 77, died unexpectedly, December 23, 2016, at his home in Bangor. He was born August 15, 1939, in Bangor, the son of Peter Earl Hughes, and Hazel Adella (Moore) Hughes.
Pete attended Bangor schools. In his early years he worked at Eastern Fine Paper, in Brewer. He and June Hughes started t heir family then, eventually having six children. Pete worked at the Jewish Community Center for 18 years, maintaining it to the best of his ability. He later went to work at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he worked for over 20 years. Pete enjoyed sports, especially the Red Sox, Patriots, and Maine Hockey, but his favorite pastime was horse races. He will be remembered as a kind-hearted person who was a good listener; and a very hard worker who had an excellent work ethic.
In addition to his parents Pete was predeceased by three siblings. He is survived by his children, Peter Hughes and wife Marie of Levant, Danny Hughes and wife Paula of Port St. Lucie, FL, daughter Mary Hughes and significant other, Robert Ladner, of Beech Hill Pond, Wendy Hughes of Bangor, Gary Hughes and wife Johanna of Levant, Michael Hughes of Bangor; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother Patrick Hughes and wife Eleanor “Snookie”, and their daughter Susan, of Corinth, sister Mary Ellen Hughes and very special friend of the family, Linda King of Bangor.
