Merl Knowlton

September 5, 1945 — October 12, 2017

Merl F. Knowlton, age 72 of Hudson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 12, 2017. He was born on September 5, 1945 in Old Town, Maine to Merl F Sr and Emily Rand Knowlton and grew up in the nearby town of Bradley. He dropped out of school at a young age to work and help support his ill parents. He worked for himself sewing shoes, logging and eventually owned his own business, MCL Logging, Inc. He took pride in his business and worked hard all his life. He was a kind and caring man who enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing and in later days just watching the birds. His great passion was for animals and he loved his many dogs.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy and her daughters Tracey and Jessie Shepard all of Hudson, a son Ron and his wife Deanna Thurston of Hudson, three daughters, Debbie and her husband William of Bluehill, Penny Cronkite of Ellsworth, Sandra and her husband Wayne Applebee of Charleston, their mother Joyce Ross of Ellsworth and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Merl is predeceased by his partner of 38 years Christine Thurston and her daughter Deborah Hall.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 28, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Hudson Baptist Church at 2328 Hudson Rd in Hudson Maine followed by an interment of his ashes at the Mohawk Cemetery with Pastor Garnett Chute officiating.
