MARY ANNE HENDERSON

BANGOR – Mary Anne Henderson, 78, died May 2, 2016, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 16, 1937 in Lewiston, Maine. She was the eldest daughter of the late John and Noella (Wright) O’Connor.

Mary Anne was a graduate of Cathedral High School, St. Joseph’s College and received her master’s degree in 1971 from the University of Maine at Orono. As an educator, she taught English at Clinton High School, Traip Academy, and Milo High School. From 1968-1991 she was the library director at Bangor High School.
After she retired from the Bangor School Dept, she worked at Bangor Christian Schools and the Dyer Library is Saco. She and her husband Owen spent their summers at their cottage on Schoodic Lake with family and friends. Those years were also busy with volunteer endeavors at EMMC and Bansco FCU in Bangor. In June 1995, three years after Owen’s death, she moved to Saco, Maine. While in Saco, she was active with the foster grandparent program in the local schools and as a family friend at St Andre Home for Single Moms. She was an active member of the National Association of Teachers, Maine Teachers Association, and Maine Association of Retirees. Upon the death of her loving companion, Earl Henderson, Mary Anne returned to Bangor and resided in Birch Hill Estates. From 2007 to present she volunteered at Beacon Hospice.
Mary Anne is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 31 years, Owen, and her companion of 13 years, Earl who passed Sept 7, 2007.

Surviving are her son MSgt(ret) John L. Henderson of Oklahoma City, a sister Elizabeth A. Hachey and her husband Thomas of Farmingdale, and a sister in law Harriet Wright of Portland. Nephews Richard, Tim, and Craig Hachey, Michael and William Henderson, and niece Nora VanDusen.
