Letha A. Dorr, 80, died peacefully September 24, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, Barbara, the same home Letha raised her family. She was born January 16, 1937 in Calais, the daughter of Vernon Mason and Marcella Mary (Hatt) Wentworth.
Letha attended Bangor schools and was employed at the First National Store, State Street, until 1974. She continued to work in the food service industry for a number of years. Letha’s primary focus was on her family and their activities. She spent many summers with her grandchildren, creating meaningful memories at Loon Lodge on Pushaw Lake. Letha will be remembered as a very adventurous lady, enjoying traveling, cross country with her companion, Dale Higgins of Arizona, after moving to Arizona in 2005.
Surviving are three children, Donald L. Dorr, Jr. and his wife, Crystal of Norridgewock, Barbara Dorr of Bangor, and Danny R. Dorr of Hermon; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon Wentworth and his wife, Eleanor of Princeton; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Murphy; nieces and nephews; her special companion, Dale Higgins of Arizona. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one son, Robert D. Dorr, the father of her children, Donald L. Dorr, Sr. and a sister, Frances Perkins.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Letha’s life will be held 1 to 3pm Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Pine Grove Crematorium and Remembrance Center, 1347 Hammond Street, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Letha in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center, C/O EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
