Joyce Mailman

Joyce M. Mailman, 93, of Bradford and Corinth, Maine, passed away on April 18, 2024, surrounded by family. She was born May 10, 1930 in Bradford, Maine, to Freeman Leigh Strout and Stella Mae (Williams) Strout.

Joyce was the youngest of six, attended the local elementary school and graduated Valedictorian from Bradford High School, Class of 1948. She married the only love of her life, Arthur Mailman, on May 25, 1949, together they had 5 children. Joyce went to work at the Bangor City Nursing Facility on 103 Texas Ave around the passing of husband, Arthur, where she stayed for 23 years, starting out part time as a tray girl, moved into cooking and, eventually, became the Kitchen Manager before retiring in June of 1995.

Joyce was known as Gram Jo to all grand and great-grandchildren, they all enjoyed visiting Gram Jo, playing on the keyboard and eating a homemade meal. She loved to listen to, and play, her music, enjoyed family gatherings, and to travel with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Dianne and husband, Steve Fontaine, of Gorham, Donna Lord of Presque Isle, Denise Randall of Connecticut; sons, Darren and wife, Susan, of Old Town, Durand and wife, Brenda, of Corinth; 16 grandchildren and their spouses, Ben Lord and wife, Becky, Nate Randall and wife, Joni, Eric Whitfield and wife, Mel, Melissa Lee and husband, Josh, Jaime Pinto and husband, Ted, Jaye Ann Rhodes and husband, Joseph, Katie Allen and husband, Josh, Meagan Lowe and husband, Andrew, Lindsey Bode and husband, Sean, Colby Mailman and wife, Jessica, Shelby Shaw and husband, Luke, Kristina Lord and boyfriend, Timothy Chester, Cassidy Miller and husband, Brian, Hayley Mailman and boyfriend, Cody Veilleux, Breanna Flores and boyfriend, Joshua Fredericksen, Ethan Mailman and finance, Kaitlyn Pinkham; 2 bonus grandchildren, Gary Johnson and wife, Bridgette, Garrett Johnson and wife, Kayla; 20 great-grandchildren, Willow, Tallulah and Ava Whitfield, Griffin and Jackson Lord, William and Derrick Randall, Keeli, Darren and Eleanor Bode, Jackson, Alex, Elise and Samuel Lowe, Mackenna, Bodhi and Baby Joyce Mailman, Lincoln Shaw, Teddy and Madison Miller; 5 bonus great-grandchildren, Ella and Ava Pinto, Knox and Kade Johnson and Jace Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
Joyce (Strout) Mailman was the last of her generation and joins those that passed before her, including her above mentioned father and mother; sister, Rebecca Miles and husband, Clifton, Warren Strout and wife, Lillian, Geneva Allen and husband, Phillip, Roberta Bean and husband, Lester, and Robert Strout and his wife, Elaine; in-laws, George and Doris Mailman; sister in-law, Alice and husband, Paul Shannonl; brother in law, Richard Mailman.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph Hospital for their care and compassion in Joyce’s final weeks.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Bradford Baptist Church, 461 Main Road, Bradford, ME., where Joyce was a member since 1955. All are welcome.
