BANGOR & LEVANT– John V. Merry, 100, passed away January 28, 2018, at a Bangor hospital. He was born January 18, 1918, in Bangor, the son of Harris P. and Blanche (Jones) Merry.
John attended Bangor area schools. Early in life, John was a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. Following the war, John became a Bangor City Police Officer, and later was a Deputy with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department. For the remainder of his career, he was a Security Guard for Merchants Bank. John was a member of the Rising Virtue Lodge #10, AF & AM of Bangor, Scottish Rite Bodies, Maine Consistory 32nd degree, and Anah Shriners. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. John enjoyed spending time with his family and his pets.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis D. Merry; a brother, Kenneth Merry; and a sister, Elaine Stallard. Surviving are his daughters, Sharon Fascia of Baldwinsville, NY, and Lynn Douglass and husband, Randy of Levant; grandchildren, Brian Fascia, Carrie Zoda, Rustin Douglass, and Ryan Douglass; and three great-grandchildren.
