BAR HARBOR – John F. Kollman, 73, died unexpectedly on Feb. 9 at EMMC.
John was born in 1943 in Ohio to A.E. Kollman and Elinor Lamb Kollman.
John earned an associate degree in electronics and then joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Winter Harbor, he met and married his wife of 48 years, Gayle Hanson of Bar Harbor. They resided in Bar Harbor, where they raised their two children.
He was in business for himself for over 30 years as the owner of Kollman’s Audio Visual before losing his vision in 2005. He was a volunteer firefighter, served on the town Warrant Committee and was a longtime member and officer in the Bar Harbor Rotary Club. He spent his retirement years as a HAM radio operator and proud member of the Ellsworth Amateur Wireless Association.
John was a wizard with anything electronic. Before the loss of his eyesight, he was always rewiring and building something new and exciting.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Gayle, daughter Katherine and her husband, Tony Veit, of Gardiner and their children Chloe and Piper Kollman-Veit, son John and his wife, Melanie, of Bangor and their children Reggie, Rubie, Lily and Henry Kollman.
A spring celebration of his life will be planned.
