Janet E. “Jan” Rostrup
Glenburn – Janet (McFadden) Rostrup, 75, wife of the late Robert “Bob” Rostrup, died February 11, 2019, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 7, 1943, the daughter of Wilbur “Mac” and Evelyn (Knowles) McFadden.
Janet attended the Bangor school system, graduating from Bangor High School. Jan, as everyone called her, held many different jobs around the city of Bangor during her working career, but none as gratifying as being a small business owner of Candles by Jan, a business she ran until her health began to fail her. There wasn’t a craft or hobby that Jan wouldn’t try, and if she enjoyed it, she would go all out to perfect it. She learned many crafts from her mother that she would continue to do until she was physically unable; knitting, crocheting, and painting by numbers, which was always done with a toothpick rather than a brush. Jan always had a project going next to her chair. She also had a profound love of animals, especially her many dogs she had over the years and her many birds. She also loved watching the deer run in her backyard.
Jan is survived by her sons; Keith Bragg and wife, Tami, of Hermon, Ralph Helms and wife, Sandra, of Hampden; grandchildren, Briana Welch and husband, Jake, of Hermon, Jamie Mitcheltree and husband, Danny, of Carmel, Tiffany Bragg, of Brewer, Megan Helms, of Glenburn, Ryan Helms and wife, Sara, of Newport, Derek Helms and girlfriend, Jasmine Mitchell, of Winter Springs, Florida, Erika Darrah and husband, Brian, of Bangor, Sean Stone and fiancé, Samantha Newton, of Texas; she is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; a special longtime dear friend, Doris Bushnell, of Glenburn; and her very special furry friend, Chrissy, who wouldn’t leave her side until Jan went into the Veteran’s Home.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert; youngest son, Alan Stone, of Bangor; and granddaughter, Brandi L. Bragg.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph Hospital, the Maine Veterans’ Home, and Beacon Hospice, for their extraordinary and compassionate care during this difficult time.
In keeping with Jan’s wishes, services will be private for the family. Those wishing to remember Jan in a special way may make donations in her name to the Maine Veterans’ Home, 44 Hogan Rd. Bangor, 04401.
