Gary Ashe

February 21, 1963 — September 21, 2024

Gary S. Ashe, (61), of Bucksport, ME, passed away peacefully at home on Sept. 21, 2024 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

He attended Bucksport High School before starting his lifelong career in construction.

His children meant the world to him. Jessica McGuire, Samantha Rink (Thomas), Ricky McGuire (Amanda), Joey McGuire (Crystal), Chris Fernandez (Jessica).

Though he loved racing and hunting, his favorite role was that as a grandparent. He treasured his time with his grandkids Reighan, Jesse, Adisyn, Colton, Hallie, Aurora, Beau, Gemma, and Lukas and loved being their Grampy, never failing to create something special out of wood for them (to treasure.)

He is survived by his loving girlfriend, Abby Woodhead, sisters Susan Varnum, Karen Wardwell, Pauline Piscopo, brothers Glenn Ashe and Orrin Gray, and ex wife Brenda Wood and many nieces and nephews.

Gary had a soft spot for his furry friends, treating each and everyone like the family members they were. His cats Ella and Norman were his world. He even entered Norman in a contest once for world’s best cat. They had a bond like no other.

Gary and his friends were practically inseparable throughout their lives. From fishing on Toddy to riding in his Nova, he and Joe Sabol were together through it all.

Everyone who knew Gary, knew he loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt and always wearing a black #3 shirt. Gary was so genuine and will always be remembered for his big bear hugs and the way that he protected those he loved. We couldn’t have asked for a better Son, Brother, Dad, Grampy, Uncle, and friend. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Gary was passionate about his work as an operator for many years, most recently with Wicklow Custom Home Builders.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother Priscilla A. Gray, brothers Dennis Piscopo and Brian Wardwell, and granddaughter Caddis Grace.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
