On Tuesday, June 25th, Douglas R. Boutaugh (74) passed away surrounded by family after his
long battle with cancer at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Born to Sarah and
Frederick Boutaugh on June 29th, 1949, Doug graduated from Stearns High School. At the age
of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon returning to Millinocket, Doug began working
at the East and Millinocket paper mills.
An avid musician, when Doug wasn’t working, you could find him playing music in his band for
family and friends. Doug would often be out in the woods, hunting, fishing, or on the boat.
Recently buying a boat to spend time with family on the water. Doug loved to ride his motorcycle
and was a part of the American Legion riders, participating in rides across the state. He was an
avid member of many local organizations including the American Legion, Elks Lodge, Veterans
of Foreign War (VFW), and the honor guard.
Doug is survived by his wife, Tammy Boutaugh, children Jim and Kelly Violette, Bob and Sato
Violette, Dawn and Donny Boyington, Joe and Jessica Lyons, Cadie and Nicholas Maney, and
Caryn and Justin Waceken, siblings Steve and Rebecca Boutaugh, Sue Winslow, and sister-in
law Sharon Boutaugh, along with 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his
parents, Doug is predeceased by his first wife Mikey Boutaugh and brother Dennis Boutaugh.
Friends are invited to join the family at a graveside celebration on July 12, 2024 at 1PM at the
Millinocket Cemetery. Following the service, a celebration of life ceremony will be held at the
Millinocket American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family asks if you’d like to donate, donations
may be directed to the Katahdin Area Support Group.
