Diane Legassie

December 1, 1955 — December 13, 2016

Diane “Diana” Lynn (Cary) Legassie, age 61, passed away peacefully in her sleep, after battling a long illness on December 13, 2016. Diane was born on December 1, 1955 in Buffalo New York, the daughter of Keith Cary of Hampden Maine and Alina Krischanowski of Kiev, Ukraine. She moved to Maine at age five with her family and resided in Brewer. She completed her education through the Brewer School System in 1973.

Diane was known for her fun loving free spirit and desire to live her life in a way that was most meaningful to her. She was fiercely independent, a straight shooter and had a great sense of humor. Her laugh was simply contagious. She enjoyed sailing as well as all other outdoor activities. Diane was always willing to extend a hand for those in need and will be greatly missed by many.

Diane was predeceased by her father Keith and special second mother; Virginia Reid. In addition to her mother, Alina of Yelm, Washington, Diane is also survived by her husband of 16 years Urban Legassie of Bangor. Two brothers; Dean Cary of Bangor and Richard “Dickie” Cary of Florida and a sister Coleen “Sandy” Hudson of Arkansas as well as sister-in-law Stephanie Davis of Machias. Daughters; Abbie Wickett of Bangor, Kristina Wickett of Brewer, Jessica Sargent and husband Russell of Milford, and Cherie Proudfoot and husband Dennis of Bangor. As well as chosen children; Raekel Nichols and Ryan Hills both of Bangor, Shawnna Smith of Bucksport, Shannon Enman of Biddeford and Stacy Cunningham of Hampden. Grandchildren; Zachary, Amaya, Dylan, Patience, Ziggy, Skyla, Austin, AJ, Arianna, Tyler, Trenton, Maximillian and Winn. Niece and nephews; Katie, Josey, John, Brandy and Adam. Chosen family; Stephen and Gail Wickett, James Wickett, Alex and Donald Young all of Bradley, Joy McLain, Mary Libby and Colleen Veilleux. Special life-long best friend and brother Phillip Reid of Florida. Several brother and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and a great many of friends.

It was Diane’s wishes to be cremated and to be at one with the ocean. A ceremony of remembrance will take place in the spring, additional details will be announced at a later date. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.Memorial-Alternatives.com
