Deanna C. Lander,

Hermon.

Deanna C. Lander, 86, of Hermon, Maine went to be with her Lord on August 30, 2024. The daughter of Norman W. and Shirley E. (Bailey) Chadbourne of Cambridge, Maine, Deanna was born January 15, 1938 in Dexter, Maine. Deanna attended school at the Cambridge Flats and Village schools then went on to graduate from Dexter Regional High School in 1956. She attended Wheaton College in Wheaton Illinois from 1956 -1959. Following her junior year of college, Deanna married her high school sweetheart, Galen M. Lander, on August 30, 1959. She finished her education and graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education in 1960.

Music was an important part of Deanna’s life from an early age. Deanna, Beth Ann, her sister, and Galen, took music lessons together. As a young child, Deanna enjoyed taking piano lessons and continued her music education during high school by taking piano and trumpet lessons. Additionally, Deanna sang in the school chorus and played in the band at Dexter Regional High School. Deanna used her love of music to provide special music for the Cambridge Baptist Church and even traveled to Fort Dix, New Jersey, to perform for soldiers.

During the summer of her high school years, Deanna began teaching children as she served as a camp counselor and lifeguard at Camp Fairhaven in Brooks, Maine. After her freshman year of college, Deanna spent her summer working for the State of Maine Bureau of Taxation, in Augusta, Maine. From 1960-1961, Deanna taught first grade at the Abraham Lincoln School, Bangor, Maine. She continued teaching from 1961-1962 at Big Flats Elementary, Horseheads, New York. In 1962 Deanna and Galen moved to Massachuestts where they began their family.

The Landers moved to Millinocket, Maine in 1964 where they raised their family and made their home for 34 years. During her years in Millinocket, Deanna helped to establish Faith Baptist Church and played a role in many ministries including; founding, directing, and teaching at Faith Baptist Nursery School, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and vacation bible school, and participating in the women’s ministries of the church. In 1999, Deanna and Galen moved to Hermon, Maine. Deanna became an active member of the Old Town Baptist Church and then in later years, Hermon Baptist Church.

From a very young age, Deanna had a deep love of animals and delighted in having a dog or cat as part of the family. Throughout her life, Deanna enjoyed spending time outdoors in all seasons. She especially enjoyed water activities including swimming, boating, and water skiing. In the winter, Deanna spent time snowmobiling, skating and downhill skiing with Galen and her children. Sunday afternoons often found Deanna and the family sharing picnics and hiking. Traveling was a favorite activity for Deanna, whether it was camping with her family or journeying to other countries with Galen.
Deanna was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother who spent her days caring for her family by creating delicious meals, sewing special clothes, and providing a welcoming home for them. She modeled, for her children and grandchildren, a life of spiritual growth through prayer, Bible study, and worship. Deanna became a long time member of the Auxiliary of the Gideons International where she actively participated in Bible distributions and served as the president of the organization for several years. Most importantly, at an early age, Deanna gave her heart to Jesus and continued to follow Him for all of his life. Acts 16:31 states, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved…” Deanna now dwells in heaven with her Lord and all those loved ones who have gone before.

Deanna is survived by her husband of 65 years, Galen, daughters Kelly L. Bragdon and her husband Kelley of Hermon, Maine, Karen D. Lander of Portland, Maine, and son Jeffrey G.
