Daniel Castonguay

June 2, 1961 — December 24, 2019

BANGOR - Daniel “Danny” Louis Castonguay, 58, passed in the privacy of his home on December 24, 2019. He was born June 2, 1961, in Farmington, the son of Louis Murray Castonguay and Vivianne Rose Alma (Bouchard) Castonguay Gagnon of Livermore Falls.

Daniel attended Livermore Falls High School as a part of the class the Class of 1979 before enlisting in the U.S. Army on October 10, 1985. Daniel spent 4 years in Newport News, VA working in and driving the big trucks he admired as a small child. After the birth of his daughter, Amanda Lynn Castonguay, in 1989 he moved back to Hampden in order to raise her in Maine. Daniel was honorably discharged on January 12, 1994 and spent his remaining life driving long haul trucks.

Driving truck allowed Daniel to fully engross himself into his music. Anyone who knew him knew that music was his passion. While in high school he built a loft for himself in the garage to tuck himself away for hours listening to bands such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Joe Cocker, or Steppenwolf where he would not be interrupted. As an adult he adapted this to family life by purchasing a set of headphones with 100 feet of cord. This allowed him to roam around the house without missing a single riff.

Daniel would use music lyrics in everyday conversation with his daughter and step-daughter, fostering a love of 1970’s rock music into the next generation. Daniel played piano and guitar, much to the delight of his mother who would listen intently, a smile on her lips. His daughter, Amanda, shares his guitar talents.
Daniel found peace in his final years in woodworking, intricate fish tanks, music, fishing, and hunting. He was planning a final hunting and fishing expedition at the time of his passing. He passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his favorite music, guitars, and the maps he was using to plan his trip.

In addition to both of his parents; Daniel was predeceased by two brothers, Jean Charles and Denis Castonguay. Daniel is survived by his daughters, Jamie Gagnon, Amanda Lynn Castonguay, and her sister, Bradie Jo Castonguay. He is also survived by his sister, Louisette Castonguay of West Farmington; and brother, Michel T. Castonguay of Livermore Falls; his three nieces, Danielle J. (Castonguay) Biswell of Weld, Tammy (Castonguay) Frost of Livermore Falls, and April (Castonguay) Kellogg of North Carolina; as well as four great-nephews; and a great-niece; Ethan, Carter, Nathan, Riley, and Jack.
