Dana Carver

February 10, 1956 — October 5, 2018

Dana Jerome Carver, 62, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2018 following a 16-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He was born on February 10, 1956 at Eastern Maine General Hospital in Bangor to Arnold Payson Carver and Beatrice Mary (Beote) Carver, both of Addison.
Dana’s family moved to Connecticut when he was a young boy where he received his education until they returned to Addison in 1973. The following year he graduated from Narraguagus High School and moved back to Connecticut to learn how to be a painter from his mentor, John Pasiuk. He later resided in Florida and worked as a painter, painting the interior of many high-rise buildings.
In 1981 Dana once again found his way back home to Addison where he was considered to be a Jack-of-All-Trades. He could build or repair just about anything earning him the nickname, MacGyver. During this time he began his business, Carver Auto Body. He also worked hard digging marine worms and working on local fishing boats. In 1982 he met the love of his life, Julie E. Ross. The married August 20, 1988 and together they raised their two daughters. He used to love telling the story of how in the late seventies a fortuneteller told him that there would be three beautiful women entering his life.
Dana was a life long learner. In 1999 he received his Boiler Operator-High Pressure License and in 2009 he graduated with Honors from the University of Maine at Machias with a Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences.
Dana had many talents and passions. He was an accomplished drummer and especially loved playing music with his friends. Whenever he heard a song, after only a couple of beats, he recognized the name of the song, the band, and when it came out. Dana also loved anything with wheels, especially Pontiac cars. His pride and joy was his 1968 Pontiac Firebird. Soon after Dana’s cancer diagnosis his friends rallied and helped him finish the work he had begun on this car enabling him to get behind the wheel a few more times. Another favorite pastime was fishing, be it fly-fishing with a fly he had tied or a spinnerbait with one of his many reels. Although he had many places he loved to cast his line, his favorite was at Hermon Pond.
On December 20, 2012 Dana became a Master Masonat Tuscan Lodge #106 AF & AM in Addison. Here he earned the Rookie Award and most recently held the seat of Junior Steward. Dana took great pride in this and made sure there was always more than enough food for everyone in attendance. One of his favorite Lodge activities was the annual Haunted House for which he would plan all year.
In June 2014, with the birth of his grandson, he was elevated to Papa. In this role he excelled and found great joy in nurturing in his grandson a love of music and cars.
Dana is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Julie (Ross) Carver of Addison; his daughters, Rebecca April Carver, her son Elias Bradley Honas, who was his Papa’s mini-me, and her boyfriend, Tyler Landry of Bangor; Rachelle Autumn Carver and her fiancée Gavin Endre of Lamoine; his sister, Connie Fox and her husband, Pat of Addison and Seminole, FL; his nephew, MSTCS Steven Natale, USCG (Ret.), and family of Maryland; his niece, YNCM Michele (Natale) McCoy, USCG and family of Virginia; his nephew, MK2 Bradley Fox, USCG and family of Louisianna; his aunt, Mary (Beote) Pearson of Brewer; and numerous cousins.
