Cynthia Bunce Goss Triplett passed away on the evening of May 29, 2024. Known to her friends as Cindy, she was born to James and Doris Goss in Lynn, Massachusetts in October 1938. Her family moved to upstate New York and then to Kentucky where she attended the Louisville Collegiate School. Her mother insisted that she go to college, so Cindy attended Skidmore College in Saratoga, New York, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse and worked as an RN before she then married Hervey Triplett in 1960 and had two children— Elizabeth and James.
The Triplett family spent many years moving around the world— from Tennessee and Texas to East Africa (Uganda and Kenya), before making their way back to New England, and eventually to Holden, Maine in 1978. After moving so much, Cindy was happy to settle in Maine and called it home for the rest of her life, but she continued to travel both domestically and internationally often.
Cindy’s determination and independence was an inspiration to her family and friends; she worked as a RN as well as a psychiatric nurse at Acadia Hospital until her retirement at 80. She was an avid traveler, and each year she looked forward to taking a big international trip including travel to China, Chile, New Zealand, Germany, Russia, and many others. Cindy was always planning her next adventure with a dear friend. Two of her favorite post-CoVID trips were a cruise down the Rhine and a cross-country road trip to visit the National Parks.
Cindy loved life, she was curious and interested in everything, especially her family, friends and pets. She was an enthusiastic volunteer and loved being an active part of her community, from the Bangor Folk Festival to Leonard’s Mills. Cindy was an engaged member of many clubs, including the Sarah Whitman Hooker DAR, the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter A, Bangor, Maine, and the Shakespeare Club. Cindy also served on the Board of Directors of the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and contributed to many local organizations.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth; her son-in-law, Donald; her nephew, James Stuart; and five grandchildren, Kayla and her husband, Benjamin; Judy and her husband, Cam; Karen; Rachel and her husband, Adam; and Ian. She was lucky enough to have two great grandchildren, Lucas and Nora, who brought her so much joy. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, James Goss; her son, James Triplett; and her grandson, Andrew.
Cindy’s family remembers her as a nature and animal lover who was always up for anything. The world feels a little less magical without her in it.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 225 French St, Bangor. Gifts in Cindy’s memory may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME. 04401.
