Winterport – Craig Sterling Fulton passed suddenly on December 10, 2014 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine. He was born on May 16, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he lived with his parents, Omar Fulton and Ruth (Williamson) Fulton.
The family later moved to Princess Anne, Maryland. He served in the United States Navy and was stationed at the Brunswick Naval Air Station in Brunswick, Maine. It was there that he met Jonica Nancy Popadak. They fell in love and were married on August 31, 1963. Craig had several jobs, working as a typewriter repairman, a shoe salesman at the old Grant’s store and as a bartender at the local ELKS club before starting his career in the paper industry. He worked at Pejepscot Paper Mill in Pejepscot, Maine, where he served as Pulp Mill Superintendent until the mill closed in 1987. While there, Craig was published in several trade magazines and also presented one of his papers at a national Sappi conference in San Francisco, California. Upon the closing of the Pejepscot mill, Craig was offered a job at Champion Paper in Bucksport, Maine, where he worked as a manager for more than ten years. His industry career included a trip to Sweden and Finland which he always cherished. After retiring from the paper industry, he took a job at Eastern Maine Medical Center where he worked for another ten years. Craig enjoyed music especially doo wop, movies, a good cup of black coffee, woodworking, sailing, vintage cars, his computer and spending time with his family. He was a jokester and storyteller and never met a stranger. He was loved and respected by the many people that he knew throughout his life and will be sadly missed.
Craig is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Jonica, two daughters, Rebecca Morgan and husband Michael, and Wendy Barry and husband Rand; three grandsons, Nicholas, Andrew and Maxwell; his brothers and sisters, Elsie Cayaves, Omar Fulton Jr., Virginia Braid, Constance Kenny, Eugene Fulton, Yvonne Kelly, Lowell Fulton and Francine Brooks; and many, many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful German Shepherd, Gunner and his cats Slick, Reno, Emma, Mia, Maddy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Thelma Colflesh.
