Clair Hesseltine

August 20, 1936 — March 27, 2019

Milford - Clair Reginald Hesseltine, 82, beloved husband of Marie A. (Doane), passed away on March 27, 2019, in Bangor with his loving family by his side. Clair was born in Old Town on August 20, 1936, to Charles Hesseltine and Arlene (Currier).

Clair spent the majority of his working years in the woods. For many years, his little blue “Whacky Woodcutter” truck could be seen around town. He worked very hard for his family. Clair loved camping and spent many fun-filled summers at Sabao, Unknown, Deer Lake and Lamoine. He enjoyed playing poker and cribbage, horseshoes, fishing, hunting, gardening, weekend drives and going to the casino. When he could no longer work, he devoted his time to the grandkids, driving them around in “Grandpa’s Taxi” and spoiling them like crazy. Clair was a devoted husband, loving father, perfect grandpa, and everybody’s favorite friend. His family was always his greatest treasure…and he will forever be ours.

In addition to his devoted wife of 63 years, Clair is survived by a son, Galen (Wayne) and Cindy Kaupelis of Holden, daughter, Kandy McCullough and Michael of Milford, granddaughters, Heidi Hesseltine and Stephen Buxton, Karla and Eric Seavey, Megan Hamel and Kevin Call, Jr., Kauri Hamel; grandson, Todd Baker, great-granddaughters, Santana Hesseltine, Kalen Avery, Kimberly Lawson, Desiree, Nikki and Myshel Seavey, Paisley Hamel, and a brand new great-great grandson, Oliver Nickerson. Clair also leaves behind brothers, Stanley Hesseltine of Milford, Richard Hesseltine and Judy of Milford, Lawrence Hesseltine and Judy of Lincoln, Bruce Hesseltine and Susan of Connecticut, brother-in-law Hugh Doane of Milford, sisters-in-law Patricia Abbott of Milford and Beatrice Doane of Orono.

In addition to his parents, Clair was predeceased by his son, Karl Hesseltine, brothers, George Hesseltine and Charles Hesseltine, sisters, Gloria Jenkins, Linda Atherton, Sharon Raymond and Dolores Miller, along with many sisters and brothers-in-law. Clair will be greatly missed by special friends, Donnie and Carlene Lee of East Machias, David and Becky McCullough of Glenburn, Chris Smith of Stetson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He’ll be greatly missed by his beloved dog, Buddy.

There will be no services at this time. Condolences may be expressed at Memorial-Alternatives.com
