Charles Berry

February 22, 1941 — December 28, 2020

Corinth- Charles “Charlie” L. Berry Sr., 79, died December 28, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was born February 22, 1941 in Bangor, the son of Lloyd and Katherine (Pinkham) Berry.

Charlie graduated Bangor High School in 1959. He then started working for his father's company, L.E. Berry & Sons. After his father’s passing, Charlie owned and operated the company until he retired in 2003. While working as a self-employed gravel contractor, he was also the road commissioner for the Town of Kenduskeag for many years. After retirement he worked many hours planting and tending gardens and had a vegetable stand at his home. It was said that Charlie worked harder after retirement. He was his happiest while working on and finishing his lifetime of projects. Charlie enjoyed trapping and hunting. Every hunting season you would find him with his friends and family hunting Old Ohio St. He enjoyed racing at Speedway 95, and flying his airplane when he was younger.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Kevin Berry and his brother, Dennis Berry.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Thaila J. (Hodgdon); son, Charles Berry Jr and his wife, Tonya of Corinth; his two daughters, Monica Campbell and her husband, Jeff of Corinth, and Christina Eaton and her children of Levant. Charlie left behind his grandsons, Charles Berry III and his fiancée, Bea Richards of Corinth and Ronnie Campbell of Corinth; granddaughter, Nichole Berry and her boyfriend, Nate Cherry of Corinth; sister, Sharon (Berry) Gonyar of Orono and a special niece, Thaila Goss of Virginia; several cousins, and extended family. He was also survived by a very dear friend, Joe Oliver of Kenduskeag.

Charlie worked hard his whole life. He made sure his friends and family never went without. All who knew him will have a favorite story to tell.

A graveside service will be planned and announced in the Spring of 2021. Those who wish to remember Charlie in a special way can make donations in his memory to Lafayette Family Cancer Center, C/O Northern Light Health Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04401-0931.
