Bertina Gertrude Hartley, 81, went home to heaven on September 4, 2017 after an extended battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Bertina was born in Carmel, Maine on April 25, 1936 to Franklin and Belva Brawn.
A dedicated wife and mother, Bertina was known as an excellent cook and an avid gardener who liked to grow enough so that she could share it with others. She also enjoyed crafts and painting and many were beneficiaries of her talents and her desire to share that beautiful work with others.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother and sister-in-law Frank and Florence Brawn of Ripley, Maine; and her six children, Norman of Port Orchard, Washington; Pamela of Danville, Virginia; Kevin and wife Michelle of Suffolk, Virginia; Kathy of Newport, Maine; Kerry of Dixmont, Maine; and Kirsten and wife Kelly of Fort Hood, Texas. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at Highland Cemetery, Carmel, at a later date.
